Your analysis did not consider differences in rate of deployment and adoption.

 The choice involves some tradeoffs.  We need to make sure that we
 consider them as a set.

 New record types have a history of taking a _very_ long time before
 they gain widescale usability.  Given the urgency of spam control, this
 is an important concern.


Ask your DNS vendor/supplier/support if they support RFC3597
http://ietf.org/rfc/rfc3597.txt today, if not ask them when.
Explain to them that future spam fights will depend on this getting
this done ASAP, everyone supporting RFC3597 can support new
RR types overnight.

Even us DNS people learn from history :-)
