Now I can say it with more authority, having had this discussion.
It's of minor benefit because of the efficiency it enables.

SPF doesn't require packets > 512B.

Changes affecting the average size of information carried by DNS will be
RFC3492 implementing Punycode and RFC3596 implementing IPv6.  These two
RFCs are in early stages so such assessments of an average entry needs
to consider their impact.  Will CIDR notation be effective if hosts are
diversified as each domain publishes all hosts/domains transporting mail
on their behalf?  Without enforcement, there is little incentive for
these TXT entries to be comprehensive, so are these valid examples of
the end-game?
