You are correct that spammers don't care whether any individual
message gets delivered. All they care about is volume. This is why
the conventional wisdom ot to unsubscribe from spam is wrong; they
already have your address, and if the sender happens to be somewhat
legitimate, they might actually stop.
OTOH: The assumption behind that conventional wisdom is that the
unsubscribe acts as a active account validation and thus makes the
address more valuable to spammers since they know that the address
got accepted as opposed to possibly having bounced.
