Thanks a lot. This seems to be a bit less elegant compared to what John
was hinting at, but it *is* running code. I'll probably try this.
If you *know* you'll be using a more modern version of, say, groff,
then writing to a file (and *not* instantiating the TOC within the
document) is definitely more elegant. However, some installations
of groff disable that feature, since it introduces additional security
risks.
