As are GeoTrust and Thawte. The paper recognizes the difference between
brands and the companies that use them. Then makes an error about what they
describe as the largest operating company.
I can't see the error you refer to. On page 6 "Symantec" is top of the
list of parent companies in table 4, and on the same page the text says
"Symantec owns Equifax, GeoTrust, TC TrustCenter, Thawte, and VeriSign".
The name they use to refer to each CA seems to come from the organization
field in its certificate DN, which explains the heading in table 5 and
the references to VeriSign, Inc.
