Absolutely, and there can be (and have been) issues with
doing it ourselves.  My only real concern about using
other people's tools is that there's the possibility that
they can fold up shop, change the terms of use, etc. -
we have no control over that.  The likelihood of that
happening with Github is vanishingly small (although it's
not out of the question that they might start charging for
what are now free accounts).

I use Github pretty heavily for both work and hobbies, and
I like it.  But I back up my own stuff locally - just saying.

For what it's worth, in my role on the IAOC I observe that we do
consider all of our options today. But I may also observe a bias in the
community that I'd like to understand better.

I don't know too many people who aren't currently using
Github for various projects.
