I'm having a problem with MHonArc, and I hope someone can help...
I've got a cron job that runs MHonArc at midnight, and I came in this
morning to see that MHonArc had done the following (and it's repeatable,
on 2 machines I tried).

A job, in case anyone's interested. But I'm really letting all those
60s alumni among you know that by the end of the day tomorrow, the 60s
celebration programme will be up on the web. Pointers to:
http://www.ukc.ac.uk/ukc/ukc_news.html#topOfpage
There will be a '60s Celebration' link. We're just sorting out the
finer graphics now. Also the paper version will be with you all next
week (we're sending it out tomorrow and Monday). You all know the dates
(5-6 September), and we've had promises to come from the USA, Canada,
Barbados, Africa, continental Europe as well as all over the UK! So
please send in your booking forms when you get them, or email me and
I'll email you the booking form that way. We are leary of credit card
payments over email (for your security!), so if by credit card is how
you'd like to pay, best to fax or phone, but at least we can take
everything else by email (how many tens of other alumni are coming with
you, etc). There are early bird and group booking discounts, so do book
early and in large quantities! Thanks.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Killara

As you may know, we currently have the Lambeth Conference on campus, with
some 7-800 Anglican bishops attending.
As an advert for the Networks and Dsitributed Systems research group, the
Computing Laboratory and the University (and because it was a fun thing to
do), we've built and installed a Webcam showing live pictures of part of
the campus and any bishops who happen to walk past.
You can see it for yourself at http://www.cs.ukc.ac.uk/events/lambeth98/

let us know the secret location?

Tells you in the FAQ <http://www.cs.ukc.ac.uk/events/lambeth98/faqs.shtml>
that it's "Looking out from the UKC Networks & Distributed Systems window

Not that much of a secret. It's in the Networks and Distributed Systems
Research Lab in the "South West" wing of the Computing Lab. This wing was built
for us a few years ago, as a bridge between the Cornwallis building and the
Gulbenkian. The camera is on the first floor looking south(-ish) towards
Rutherford College, the building in the background is the extension of
Rutherford which used to house the School of Continuing Education.
In the bottom of the shot you can just see the top of the humanoid bronze
sculpture which has stood outside the Gulbenkian for years.

Either the campus has changed a bit since I was last there, or my memory
is getting bad, but I can't recognise the location of the webcam. Can you
let us know the secret location?
Not that much of a secret. It's in the Networks and Distributed
Systems Research Lab in the "South West" wing of the Computing Lab.
This wing was built for us a few years ago,
Didn't that used to be the Language Lab in the days before the collapse
of the railway tunnel?????
BTW, apologies for not reading the FAQ first!
Regards,
Hugh.

Ian,
THANK YOU VERY MUCH for setting up the webcam. It really is wonderful. I am
lucky I have a big screen and so I keep a window alive in the top right
hand corner just so I can see what is going on. It would be wonderful to
see more webcams; or to have a 'wandering' webcam. A shot from the library
would be ideal.
Again, thank you and I VERY much hope that you will be able to keep this
service going. If money becomes and issue I am SURE that we could get
together enough support to maintain the service.
I v a n ...
P.S. and if you ever want to know anything about PostScript or PDF just
call me Ian (the shoe is on the other foot now!)

I don't suppose this could be made a permanent feature? A nice shot may
be
achieved from the top of the library looking towards Rutherford.....
I agree.
Except it should be towards Keynes...
It needs to be on a motorized pan/tilt/zoom mount so everyone
can be happy!

This time of night it needs a light as well .... it reminds me of walking
