I use Swish-E for a search engine. To search by date ranges it requires a 
message timestamp in seconds-since-the-epoch. It doesn't understand anything 

How exactly do use the message timestamp with Swish-E?  If it is
based on the modtime of the file itself, you can enable the MODTIME
resource to have mhonarc set the modtime of message pages to the
date of the message.
