Yes, this is the right place to do it. With a reasonable diagnostic message it can hint at the user to configure their components file. And with a non-zero exit status, it can hint at cron jobs that something is wrong. All this combined with a reasonable set of release notes makes the whole thing fair game as far as I can think it through. --lyndon
