Might I suggest that the default ~/.mh_profile
for new users, if there is such a thing, have it turned on so they avoid
the trap until they're au fait enough to turn it off.
It's a bad idea having a command default one way (and the manpage documenting
that default), and then silently installing a hidden configuration override
that changes the behaviour.
sortm(1) states the default for 'msgs' is 'all'. Failure to read the
documentation is not a bug in the command. There's nothing wrong with sortm's
current default message list -- leave it alone. If you don't like the default
behaviour, write your own wrapper script. That's the whole point of using MH
in the first place.
