(i also preserve what was on the screen before invoking vi with a
small wrapper that scrolls the screen by $LINES before actually
invoking vi.)
Oh, I'd forgotten about that. It's needed with xterm, but
gnome-terminal takes the ^[[2J in xterm's `clear' terminfo entry as a
sign to scroll-up, creating blank lines, as your `yes '' | sed
${LINES}q' tweak does.
