Does anybody have an explanation as to *why* they stick X-UIDL headers
in?  And why haven't they stopped now that they've read this?

Assumably to get people to filter it, since it is still used with Pegasus.

And legit mail from Pegasus will be lost.

Then Pegasus will become less useful.

Then people will have to use something else, which more than likely costs money.

And the spammers will have caused more problems, in ruining the reputation  
of a nice freeware app.
