I figured the FAQ (and eventually, even the documentation) could

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I had to commit my own version but
it's already a lot better thanks to the suggestions by Sean, Todd, and
David.

Reassigned: Look at what I have now and think of ways to improve it.
(See below.)

Open questions in Appendix A (MX hosts etc) include:

  * Anything I misunderstood or formulate too vaguely?
  * Things I could remove -- the text is too long?

Open questions in Appendix B (mail folder formats) include:

  * Does anything use "mail directory" format natively?
  * What uses maildir format (program names)?
  * What uses MBX format (program names)?
  * Anybody have details on the various orphan mbox variant formats?
I remember Jamie Zawinsky posted something to comp.mail.misc once
but I also seem to recall his post referred back to some earlier
posting of his or something ...
  * Links to good www pages. I have some on store but I'll put them in
    later sometime (yeah right)

The text grew kind of long but if anybody wants excerpts by mail, I
have an autoresponder at era+pr(_at_)iki(_dot_)fi which understands the Subject:
line "send new-snippet" (for a limited time only, and as usual,
without the double quotes). And of course, it's all available from
<http://www.iki.fi/~era/procmail/mini-faq.html> as always.

Thanks again for the input so far,

/* era */
