I personally wouldn't be crazy about the idea of mere presence or
absence of any of those headers meaning anything in particular w/r/t
You misunderstand.
I would normally expect to see /^(Subject|Date|From|To):/ in each
and every email. But that's not what I'm talking about. As I said
in my original message, I'm assuming that /^(SUBJECT|DATE|FROM|TO):/
is an indication of spam. Note the case. I really meant it.
A quick look at my spam history shows that in the past two years,
EVERY message with upper-case headers has been either spam or a
"suspect" misdirected list.
Do others on the list see similar results? Can anyone tell me of
guaranteed legitimate mail that has any of those four header lines
in upper case? I know that RFC822 section 3.4.7 states that fields
can be represented in any combination of upper and lower case, but
in practical terms, what are people seeing?
* I get plenty of email from people with no subject. Some of their
email clients send a blank SUBJECT: header while others send no
SUBJECT: header at all.
I'm really curious. When was the last time you received a message
with "SUBJECT:" in the headers, and was it spam?
