formail problem with leading comma in subject

2002-05-13 13:41:30
Hello,

One of our procmail users is experiencing an odd problem with formail
(with procmail v3.15.2). Here's the recipe:

   :0 w
   | formail -i 'From: <internal address>' \
   | $SENDMAIL <vendor address> \
               <other internal address>

When we receive email from this vendor, the subject has a leading comma
in it, which appears to be the source of the problem. Formail then
sends the email to the intended recipients, changing the 'From:' line to
the desired value. When our second internal address receives the email
(see 'other internal address' above), there is no subject. Instead, the
header and body of the original message appear in the body of the
message sent by formail.

We have maunally edited one of the incoming emails to remove the leading
comma, and that seems to work fine. But, this vendor needs the comma
there in order to correctly process the data in the email.

Is this a known issue with formail? What options do we have to work
around the leading comma?

Thanks for your help!
Justin
