I actually found the post very informative and not lecturing at all,

Some people are very touchy and can't stand posts that aren't peppered
with emoticons. For them, anything that is straight-forward and
informative without coddling is "rude."
Not that I'm talking about anyone specific, just a general observation
from far too many years on mailing lists.
