Actually the way this sort of thing works is that you hire a company that
specializes in protecting trademarks to protect the name for you. I don't
know who has the contract for microsoft.com, but VeriSign is in that
business. Basically the lawyers just handle everything on autopilot. If they
talk to anyone at the client company it will be more lawyers.
The problem is that under US law trademarks are protect them or loose them.
