This is why spam honeypots like ProxyPot and spamhole work.  They appear
to accept the mail for delivery and simply do not deliver.  This appears
to encourage spammers to continue to send mail through them, because
once their found their volume grows quite rapidly.  Of course it's
slightly different scenario because they're relays instead of the
destination system that should be receiving the mail, but you get the
idea.
