Nebraska is about as far north as Italy. And, yes, this temp is not
uncommon for winter time here. In the summer time, we usually break
38degC (100degF) quite a few times. Sometimes every day for a week.

Down here in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas (USA), sometimes we break 100 every day
for a month. Sometimes get to 105/106. Records have even been hotter.
The flip side is that we rarely have any of the bone biting cold.
