I am opposed, as well.  Too much cost, too little benefit.  It would be nice
to give MS a way to save face in a merged standard, but the adoption roles
speak volumes.  They're not exactly negotiating from a position of strength
in terms of industry support.  Let's find another bone to toss.

BTW, wouldn't dropping XML obviate the patent issues?
