Hello,

IADB is *not* a whtielist.

It's a "here is information about the senders' policies and practices."

If their policies include all of their mail being confirmed opt-in, it
tells you that. If their mail is pure opt-out it tells you that too.

But the problem is that if you simply report what they tell you to, there
is no real value in it as anti-spam measure (Ritcher also says he runs
opt-in lists - year right, as if I can believe him!) unless you're also
willing to put your own company's reputation on the line that the info is
correct and allow others to report its not (and then do investigations
and take those who lied out of your list, preferably informing public of
who was taken off as well).

Sigh.

From the very first paragraph of the page at http://www.isipp.com/iadb.php:

"The ISIPP Accreditation Database (IADB) is a DNS list of the domains and/or IP addresses of senders who either a) meet ISIPP's criteria as determined by background, reference, and other checks ("non-vouched listings"), or b) are personally known to ISIPP to meet the criteria and to be good Internet mailing citizens, and for whom we will thus vouch ("vouched listings")."

Several months ago I look into what was entailed into getting listed in ISIPP Accreditation database, IADB.

My first thought of ISIPP and the like was maybe they are some fly-by-night outfit.

Reading their web pages, what they have done and do, what they foster and seeing they are activly involved in anti-spam issues, I concluded that they are supplying a viable service.

After filing out their form I thought to myself.. ok done deal.. lets see
if they just take my word for the information I supplied.

Within an hour I received an email asking some very pointed questions. Again thinking to myself.. hmmm.. they looked at areas I never mentioned nor was asked. Including but not limited to my participation in anti-spam forums, web page information, etc, etc...

They raised some valid concerns and I needed to clarify the issues of theirs for further consideration.

Based upon the areas they looked into without being told of them I concluded they do alot more behind the scene investigation than meets the eye.

Anyone who is questioning ISIPP and the validity of being added into or removed from the IADB.. I suggest not to make assumptions. Read their T&C's, what they do in the anti-spam arena and to give some thought on what they might do behind the scene to validate ones claim and the consequences of violating their T&C's.

Thanks,

Michael...
