All,
Sorry to interrupt the fun, but, we need a set of "how to set up SPF
records" instructions which are very easy to follow, for (ideally) the
most commonly deployed set-ups (think on both an enterprise and
home-business server level).
Hey guys, Anne hit the nail on the head. Stop worrying about the political
crap and start worrying about how deployment is going!!!
I have told you before that you need instructions, how too's, FAQ's, case
histories, etc. Anne is saying the same thing. This is what is important
right now. It is very necessary for record publishing, because that is where
most people are right now. It will very shortly be necessary for SRS because
right after record publishing comes bounced relays. Then it will be necessary
for adding SPF checking.
The plain fact is, you (SPF developers/deployers) are behind the curve on this
and it is hurting SPF adoption. People want SPF to work. They are willing to
give it a try. You need to support them.
I have been doing an informal survey of .edu domain SPF record publishing. The
error rate there is higher than one would like. The most common one is fairly
harmless, missing all, but it indicates people do not understand what they are
doing. If a significant number of people do not understand all, then how the
heck do you expect them to understand the more complex mechanisms???
Right now, education should be your #1 priority. Billy boy and his minions of
darkness are your least worry right now.
(Apologies to Mr. Gates & associates. I am using colorful language in order to
get try to get through to some thick headed people.)
