Okay, I can see 2 (max. 4) of my 5 votes in this list.
At least one more please:

Please don't quote private mail in public without prior

This is NOT how democracy works

More Usenet laws: Usenet is no right. It's no democracy.
Works like a charm even here. SPF-DISCUSS isn't Usenet,
it's a private list, its owner is Meng, and Meng appointed
Greg as moderator - KISS.

So if Meng or Greg would think that JohnP is out of line
they could do more about it than only say so.

The result will be a failure for this initiative.

That's always possible. Or a meteor hits the pobox server.

The "rules of order" do exist for organizing the group

There are no "rules of order", there's only a common set
of Usenet rules (e.g. votes are not secret).

The rules of order MUST also exist for any organization

That's not true. By participating in SPF-DISCUSS "we" are
an organization, and if "we" don't like it "we" go away.
For me the latter is definitely true, I don't need "rules"
to excercise my rights.

if it wants to be seen as legitimate

"There are currently 69 pledge signatures", they represent
at most 69 users of the Internet. See the result of your
first poll, it's legitimated by those who answered it, and
nobody else.

I'll ask people not to participate and not to vote and
not to follow it.

You're free to make a fool of yourself, I'm freee to make
a fool of myself, and if we run out of ideas I'm certain
that James, Koen, and Wayne could offer funny tips... ;->
