If all else fails, (can't do SMTP AUTH, can't listen on multiple ports) just
have your firewall also forward port 587 (or any other unused port) to port
25 (along with forwarding 25 to 25) to your SMTP server. Provide that info
to your users and your problem gets worked around. This is not ideal, ideal
is SMTP AUTH; I would insist that your email people work on implementing
something along those lines.

What are other corporations and institutions who use GroupWise doing
for this? There are 35 million people running GroupWise. If this
doesn't work with GroupWise, how is spf going to be effective?

Most likely with Groupwise there is no other way. Try going through
their
support and asking point blank what you need to be able to accept SMTP
connections on SUBMIT (or any other different port) in addition to port
25.
