Though PNG will work well enough if any transparent graphics are
restricted to 8-bits. Older versions of IE (and indeed many other
browsers) don't handle Alpha-channel blending at all well.
GIF doesn't handle >8bits at all, so what's the advantage of using GIF
instead of PNG?
