Replace all PNG on essential pages by GIF or better nothing.
Huh? Why GIF in stead of PNG ?
On the essential pages (why and wizard), no images are better.
I have one exremely old browser supporting only GIF, one not
so old browser supporting GIF and JPG with a PNG-plugin, but
it doesn't work for inline PNG (and PNGs stretched to whatever
my actual window size is are a PITA).
Then I have Lynx for hardcore tests, no image problems at all,
but a case for checking the missing alt="" / alt="whatever".
Finally I have Netscape 4.61, broken CSS default off. But in
practice I use only the no-PNG monster, it's small and fast...
Don't get me wrong, I don't expect that the whole world tries
to be backwards compatible with this old monster _everywhere_
But for our high tech pages "why" and "wizard" it's necessary.
If possible they should work with the oldest HTML dialect
offering forms at all. Or a WAP device with 100 * 50 pixels.
Okay, that might be a tiny bit exaggerated. I won't insist on
WAP because I can't test it.
