SRS isn't entirely unworkable but it's relatively cumbersome, has
problems with localpart size limits, and it obscures the original
reverse-path information which is useful information that some
recipients want to use.
Why do you say that it's better in the long term than something like the
SUBMITTER proposal? Or were you including that idea in the general term
'some sort of rewriting'?
