What about removing all processed mechanisms, including the one that
resulted in an error, and restarting the process?

You'd have to figure out in your code where the error occurred in the
spf string, this may be more difficult than I expect.

That might work.  I'm also thinking that for different receiver policies it
might be desirable to collect up all the errors and make a more detailed
decision on what to do, so there may actually be some operational utility.
It may also have some value for logging too.
