I think that most of us would agree that making it easier to set up SPF
checking is an important goal for the project. To that end, I think we need
to see what we can do to package RFC 4408 compliant versions of SPF related
programs for all major Unix like operating systems (and Windows where
relevant).
As an example, I use Ubuntu Linux with Postfix and so I'm* currently working
on the following:
Python:
Current pyspf release (2.0.2) accepted for their next (April) release
Planning on submitting a Python Postfix policy daemon as a package
Perl:
Working to get Julian's Mail:SPF packaged and accepted:
Got an update to libnetaddr-ip-perl accepted for the next release to meet
required dependencies
Working on a new package for Juilian's new supporting
libnet-dns-resolver-programmable-perl (currently awaiting review and
hopefully approval)
Plan to resubmit a package for Mail:SPF after the dependencies are accepted.
Working on splitting the postfix-policyd-spf-perl out from the Mail:SPF:Query
package. Once it's split out then I'll work with whichever Perl literate
programmer I can get to do it and update it for Mail:SPF.
If I can get all this done, after the next Ubuntu release you will be able to
apt-get install everything you need to check SPF with Postfix using RFC 4408
libraries in both Python and Perl.
So, what distributions do you use and what can you do (we can help) get them
up to speed.

*Note: I'm a Debian packaging neophyte and Julian has expended more than a
little time helping me out with this. Thanks.
