I just started rolling IPv6 into production and discovered
that, even when compiled with --enable-inet6, fetchmail complains
that it can not obtain the canonical name of a host if it's IPv6 only
(I have my DNS separated into IPv4, IPv6 global, and IPv6 site local
for testing). Seems to be a problem with "gethostbyname()". I'm
still exploring that to find out why.

Not using IPv6 myself, but:

- does your resolver try IPv6 at all? (nsswitch.conf)?
- does your DNS software use and answer to AAAA queries?

] [mhw(_at_)chaos mhw]$ fetchmail
] fetchmail: No mail for mhw at email.iss.net
] fetchmail: couldn't find canonical DNS name of alcove.ip6.wittsend.com
] fetchmail: Query status=11 (DNS)

] [mhw(_at_)chaos mhw]$ host -t AAAA alcove.ip6.wittsend.com
] alcove.ip6.wittsend.com has AAAA address 3ffe:b80:c84:8200:2a0:24ff:feda:d2f3

        I'm also connected to alcove.ip6.wittsend.com from chaos.iss.net
over ssh using IPv6.

And I can reach some IPv6 only web servers I have set up and
some IPv6-only web servers which I know of out on the 6Bone.

So that would be a yes to both.

Ooopppsss... Forgot to note one other thing:

[mhw(_at_)chaos mhw]$ fetchmail -V
This is fetchmail release 5.9.12+SSL+INET6
