Re: [fetchmail] Polling my ISP

2003-07-06 12:16:00
well I am not running debian but I have searched for fetchmail under
init.d and it is not there.

I added interval 3 to .fetchmailrc and that does not work.

ANother odd thing is that when the system boots I see when fetchmail is
started it alerts me that no mailservers have been specified.

if I type in fetchmail it also says that no mailservers have been
specified.

if I go into .fetchmailrc under 2 mail home directories I have set up
both have the mail.bellsouth.net specified properly, this is where I
have entered the interval command.

defaults
        proto pop3
poll mail.bellsouth.net
        proto pop3
        user "xxx"
        pass "xxx"
        keep
        no fetchall
        interval 3

Any ideas... I am really getting burned out. I was up till' 5am working
on this and I was back working on it at 11am and now it is 3:30 and I
have not made much progress.

I have searched the web for a dummies how to for fetchmail but
everything I find is either a copy of the man pages or something that
assumes you have a good knowledge of fetchmail!

Thanks,
Rich Garcia

in Debian:

cat /etc/init.d/fetchmail

OPTIONS="--daemon 300 --syslog"

300 is the number of seconds of the interval.

Can you modify this interval in the accounts configuration in the
/etc/fetchmailrc

...
poll Telefonica via pop3.telefonica.net
    with proto POP3
        interval 6
user "xxxxxx" there with password "xxxxxxxxxxxxx" ...

interval 6 is 6 * 300 seconds for this account.

Subject: [fetchmail] Polling my ISP

Well I finally got fetchmail working but now I am confused.. I would
like to poll my ISP for mail every 3 or so minutes. I have checked out
the fetchmail FAQ and only see the POLL command but when I check out the
example it just shows how to set up the account to poll, not the rate.

How to I tell fetchmail to connect to my ISP every and retrieve the mail
at regular intervals ?

I am using fetchmail with webmin but I have found it difficult to deal
with and I would rather just go in and change .fetchmailrc. Webmin is
nice but it does not appear to offer you all the options as if you were
editing the file on your own.

Thanks,
Rich
