Signatures might also benefit from being turned into an external reference --
this then avoids having quite so many copies of them floating around. (It
also allows you to update the signature for messages you've already sent.
This is an idea I'm not quite comfortable with yet, but I thought I'd mention
it.)

My conclusion is that gateways into enclaves are going to become an
important feature to have available. There's nothing particularly hard about
anything such a gateway does, except for one thing -- how to you configure
such a beast? I don't see any problem with a gateway implementing "toss
these alternatives if they appear", but I see a big problem with the
specification language you'd use to describe such actions. Nathaniel's
MAILCAP format is inadequate (he has expressly avoided making MAILCAP handle
this case, as a matter of fact).

I have some ideas on how this stuff should be done that I'm going to start
toying around with soon. I'll report any progress I make back to the list.
