Mailcap is aimed at user-configuration, not
gateway-configuration, which is a whole different kettle of fish. After
nearly a year of beating on the mailcap notion, I feel quite strongly
that these two things should be kept separate -- either is sufficiently
complex in its own right!
Well, there is a 3rd animal in the forest.
Consider the mail filter (ala MMDF/MH .maildelivery which might be
viewed as a "gateway" between my MTA and UA, with the assigned
function of inspecting incoming mail and processing it according to
various rules, one of which might be to strip out the unwanted
alternate versions.
I am not sure how long it will take to become comfortable with an
autometaic process doing this for (to) me, but I have no problem with
the fact that this kind of thing will be developed, separate from
MAILCAP and from GATEWAYS.
Cheers...\Stef
