this is like the

"do you really want to reply to all of these recipients?"

message that should probably be asked anytime a user tries to 
"reply all" to a message with a large number of recipients.

similarly, the user should be asked if he/she wants to change
the subject for any thread that goes on for awhile.

in general, user agent design needs to realize that there is a
difference between "continuing a discussion", and "starting a
new discussion" (even if it involves the same people).
