All those optional comments and the like will actually break much of
the installed base of Usenet (comments in a References-header would be
exceedingly troublesome, for example). Shouldn't that be a worry to
you?
For better or worse, usenet decided long ago to have a more restrictive syntax
than that of email. Gateways have been dealing with this for a long time.
It's occasionally annoying because a message that is gatewayed from email to
news and back suffers information loss from the gateway. But that decision was
made long ago. Even if you relax the format of news articles existing news
readers will still not know how to parse them. So for practical purposes you
need to continue adhering to those restrictions for a while.
