My guess is that most gateways just don't care. I.e. the gateway will
try to just send the mail as-is to a newsgroup ... and if that fails, it
just fails.
Because most mail user agents actually use a very restrictive syntax  
when generating mail, the mails they generate are compatible with news.  
So these gates will work most of the time.
