For example, some people sort mail into folders on delivery. If replies
to a message from me contains header fields such as "To: ... arnt" or
"Cc: ... arnt", that means I could file them where I'll notice them.

The same thing could be achieved with a little bit of references parsing
and a database lookup, but the software people use now can't do
that. (procmail and various sieve implementations are typical examples.)

I think this thread is a wonderful example of why many of us would like to
have something like MFT so that people can indicate their preferences
clearly and software can do the right thing without provoking these sorts
of flamewars coming out of culture clashes.

I don't care if what we get is MFT or something else workable, but I think
it's clear that the current situation is less than ideal.
