I don't think that Return-Path: can be considered a relic of the storage
format. It's standardized in all the relevant RFCs (821,822,2821,2822) so
isn't specific to any particular storage format. It's slightly unusual
that it's only added at final delivery, but it's important to preserve it
after that because it holds information that wouldn't otherwise be
available.
