Right. There's nothing inherently wrong with operating one. But the
vast majority of cases are where they're inadvertent, and would be
closed if the owner knew about what they're being used for. Furthermore,
there's nothing inherently wrong about blocking email from them given an
informed choice on the part of the recipients.
Yes, it's a loss of a specific means to a specific end. But so are
doors without locks. Times change. And these days, there's no need to
run a "real" open relay because there are other techniques to obtain the
same result. Doors _with_ locks.
