I don't share in your pessimism. If we can make reasonable assurances that
in 5 years spam is a thing of the past, then I think we'll hop on board.

If that were true, we would all be using IPv6.  More than 5 years ago
we all agreed that IPv6 was a good thing and that we all may as well
get on with the transition.  The optimists said that the transition
would happen by either 2005 or 2013, I don't remember now which.  If
it was 2005, they were clearly wrong.


According to your logic, we should never buy houses because it will never
pay off. We should just stick to renting, because it's cheap and it works
well enough.

That is nonsense, because the benefits of buying a house are almost
but not entirely independent of how many other people also buy houses.
