It looks like the current draft of the sieve vacation extension isn't good
enough to satisfy the requirements of draft-moore-auto-email-response-04.
Specifically, it needs a way to specify the From: address explicitly in
the script (see Section 3.1.1 of draft-moore-auto-email-response-04).

You're referring to

# However it MUST be possible for

# specify the human-readable name and address to be used in the From
# header fields of responses.

Right?

I suspect that this can be done with a simple :from parameter added to the
vacation command.

Makes sense. So it would look like this:

        :from "Jane Random <jrandom(_at_)domain(_dot_)com>"
or this
        :from "jrandom(_at_)domain(_dot_)com (Jane Random)"

We've had requests for :from, too, independent of Keith's draft.
People don't want to leak their internal mail organization, they want
to be able to use display names (especially in non-US-ASCII markets),
and they want to control where responses to these "vacation" messages
go.

In the latter context, there's also been interest to set the envelope-from,
something that Keith doesn't address other than a matter of safety.
