Subject: Re: consensus call of RR prefix

Why should

  _marid IN TXT "blabla"

be a subdomain and not supported while

  www IN A 1.2.3.4

is a normal entry not causing a subdomain? Where's the difference?

I believe this is easier and more supported than placing the
TXT record directly in the domain name. Not all interfaces support

         IN TXT "..."
or
@ IN TXT "..."

and many users don't understand that. A TXT record for _marid
is plain, strait forward, and simple.

I can't tell you why, but today, I can do all of those you list through my
DNS provider except, _marid. I could do marid without the _, but without
the _, you lose some of the collision avoidance potential. Trying to add an
A record for _marid gets me this error:

"Host names may only contain 0-9, A-Z, or hyphen (-) characters."

Is that incorrect? Yes.

Is that common? Yes.
