Can you clarify what you mean by an "invalid RFC 5322 message"? Bare CRs or
LFs? Lines longer than 998 characters long? Something else?
As stated above, its probably more correct to read it as a SMTP client
failing to escape a dotted line (<CRLF>.<CRLF>) which is not the true
EOD terminator.
