But can't this already be done with plain old:
$ pick -subj whatever -seq picked
$ refile picked:last +somefolder
$ show picked:first
$ rmm
$ show picked:next
$ ...

However, take this particular subject "exciting new stuff for 2.0" for
example. Some folks might not be interested in this thread about
threads, and so will want to rmm it. But they might want to follow the
thread about MIME.
The pick also loses if someone changes the subject. Consider:
whatever (was: something else)
A reply to that turns into:
Re: whatever
A threading model would be able to follow the References and follow
the thread even though the Subject changed.
p.s. That feature of stripping the (was: whatever) in the Subject is
another feature we could add easily. By the way, Gnus does it, after
asking the user. I just added #15272.
