Brad,
I believe an Internet arc in QUIPU directories would be
present primarily to allow folks to make use of X.500 with DNS names
as indices. It does not represent a substantive deviation from the
structure described in previous messages. Also, no one should confuse
DNs with O/R names, the names used for mailboxes in X.400. These
latter names are used for email routing and have a variety of peculiar
features not relevant to DNs.
As for your comment about multinational corporations, I think
you'll find that countries have definitie ideas about what corporate
entities are located where, e.g., for tax purposes and for legal
jurisdiction. I believe Marshall Rose once provided a rule of thumb
for distinguishing between a multinational and an international
organization: the latter can raise armies. Ross Perot's exploits not
withstanding, I think we would agree that multinational organizations
(IBM, Toyota, Siemens, Sony, ...) fail that test, if we rule out
armies of sales and marketing folks ;-).
