an unofficial procmail/smartlist webpage

1996-12-29 12:22:21
Dear List:

Thanks for all who voiced their frustration at finding a shortage of
basic newbie info on Procmail and Smartlist, and who kindly replied with
offers of help.

So far, they include:

JIM DENNIS, of Starshine Technical Services, <jimd(_at_)starshine(_dot_)org>,
who
clearly can write well and who has taken some considerable time already
to further the cause of the beginner. (I am planning on joining his
sys. adm. list, God knows I need the help.)

BILL KUEHNLEILL, <bill(_at_)NetSrv(_dot_)net>, who has agreed to host a
beginners
list, should enough interest be shown. This seems an ideal solution to
help keep the current procmail/smartlist list focused for the more
advanced users. I will be the first to join! Would the veterans of
this list concur that this is a good idea? Your thoughts would be
appreciated.

SARA YOUNG, <syoung(_at_)actcom(_dot_)co(_dot_)il>, who has graciously
volunteered to
help write a FAQ, I will be sending her some questions to respond to in
the coming days and hope that they will be the beginning of a FAQ that
some of us need so badly. I think we could all contribute to a FAQ with
our particular expertise as well as our questions. The idea is to cover
the obvious and the basic. The fine points are already addressed
elsewhere.

I offered some server space for a FAQ and have create a beginning
webpage at this morning at http://windworld.com/mail/ It is just a
concept and a location at this time, and will only happen if Stephen R.
van den Berg or others have no objections, otherwise it will be shelved
as a bad idea.

My first thought was to setup the page with a password I would pass
around to those interested in construction the page, but that is a
cop-out on the most valuable contribution I might make, playing Editor
to focus the page and do the grunt work of page design, and the
maintanance that comes with it. So if you have a contribution, I would
suggestion that you simply email me and/or attach a file to your email.
I will do my best to present a clean, clear format to convey our mutual
contributions, as time allows.

My second contribution is to just be the beginner that I really am. If
I can be taught how to use this software, then we can safely assume
almost ANYONE will be able to follow along and accomplish the same
thing.
