Re: 3.11pre7 "Breaking" 3.10 Recipes

Recently I inquired about some procmail recipes supposedly
"breaking" with an upgrade from 3.10 ot 3.11pre7. Slowly some
information is dribbling out of my ISP. The following was just
posted on the in-house newsgroup:

Welcome to the grand, great world of procmail on Access. procmail
on the Access mail servers was upgraded some time ago to v3.11pre7, and
now some procmail recipes that used to work just find and dandy cause
all kind of havoc on Access. I have been going around and around with
the Dial Up Support Team on this for months. To their credit, as
nearly as I can tell they have been getting the runaround from Systems.

The story's actually pretty straightforward:

Several months ago, the mail servers were upgraded to a new operating
system, new version of sendmail (from 8.6.x to 8.8.x), and the current
version of procmail. We did some testing of common recipes; they worked
fine.

The sendmail people have recently acknowledged that sendmail versions
beyond 8.7.5 haven't worked properly with certain types of procmail
rulesets. This problem has been corrected in 8.9.x; 8.9.1 was just
released this month.

Yes, we'll move to 8.9.x when we convert our 8.8.x-specific things to
work with 8.9.x, and we do some thorough testing. Yes, it's being
worked on now.

Apparently the two recipes I recently posted were "certain types of
procmail rulesets" which did not work with the new sendmail/procmail
combination. (I do not know what the new operating systems are; I
suspect SunOS or Solaris.) Comments?

    Thanks.
