You misinterpret what Jacques is asking, I think.

My interpretation of the question is:  Doesn't using \D and \d to delimit
start/end of case-insensitive regions conflict with the existing procmail
syntax of $\DONKEY to mean "substitute the value of $DONKEY but defuse all
magic characters"?

The answer is no, it doesn't, because procmail would parse and substitute
$\DONKEY before it parsed the regular expression.

That doesn't mean that I like the idea of using \D and \d (they're not 
exactly mnemonic; we'd never have chosen them if the flag wasn't D, and
I think the flag is only D because i was taken).
