As David pointed out privately, that condition should really have been
* 1^1 MATCH ?? ()\<postmaster@
to avoid '\' being at the start of the regular expression (where it has
the special meaning of 'here starts the regular expression'). But Sean
has given you better pointers anyway.
I shouldn't type stuff when I'm half asleep - but some would say I
