RE: Mechanism usage in live SPF records

2004-01-27 08:05:13
how many SPF records use macros at all?

What are the top 10 macros used? e.g. %{i}, %{ir}, %{p}, etc.

This would help a lot in trying to determine whether complaints from the big
ISPs on the cost of certain macros are justified by actual use.

That is certainly the impression I have gotten. There are certainly
still strong opponents to SPF (or any designated sender system), but
there are a lot of people who think it is obviously a good idea.

There are a bunch of mafiosi in Florida who are certainly opposed, they
prefer the spam business to their other scams.

The only complaint I have that I have halfway sympathy in is the privacy
issue. I think these guys simply don't understand the proposal or the
privacy issue. Since when has the right to privacy given you the right to
impersonate me? That is all SPF prevents. If you want to be anonymous get
yourself your own domain name, there are plenty of ways to get one
anonymously.

The worst case impact of SPF is a lot less worse than what the Internet is
turning into as a result of spam.

I am fed up with the greybeards who only lecture on why things won't work
and have no positive contributions to make of their own.
